Regency princess picnic. Fine marker and watercolours on unbleached paper.
Just.. a memo to self: I left the mistakes in on purpose when I saw them. Coloured/unbleached paper illustrates the difference in fine artist’s watercolours and cheap poundshop colours more clearly than white paper. The proper watercolours soak into the paper (which is great for the preservation of colour long-term, not so great on coloured paper where it means they look very subdued. For example Tiana and Pocahontas’ skin tones were done with posh colours and Jasmine with the cheaper ones so the difference in colour depth is pretty obvious.), in comparison the cheap ones stay on the surface (which results in more brilliant colour but also blocks out the marker lines underneath, i.e. the whites and yellows above).
It was some sort of Disney princess redesign Disney decided on recently. I know it applies to all the official Disney Princess merchandise and even the face characters in their amusement parks. As to why, I can only make random guesses. Probably part market research, part modernisation, part looking to regenerate/refresh the line-up to appeal to a new generation of little girls etc. etc…
Personally I like some of them and some not. Cinderella is probably my favourite revamp. See here for before/after shot, she’s not massively different it’s just the new dress design works better as a real dress than the one copied directly from the animated film. Come to think of it, that’s probably part of the reason too, all of the redesigns appear to have dresses that work better as real clothes so maybe it was all initiated from the parks, who knows?

THIS IS FUN
This is surprisingly addictive and versatile. I’m already planning Xmas cards with this and whatnot. *_*
Good thing about being busy though was that we had some friends over and we all went into town on Saturday and I finally caved in and got a Belle doll since they were reduced down to £15. It’s adorable but I’m kind of freaked out by how much hair it has (it’s like down to its knees). It will soon look like a troll with the way my kids are throwing it around.
I read this long post about Disney Princesses and how helpless they are/aren’t. Half the time I really enjoy critical posts about Disney characters for being awesome in pointing out flaws and how things could be done better (and I just wish Disney would read half of those posted here on Tumblr). The other half of the time they just make me go “did this person even watch the film?”. Above is kind of a mix of both and it forced me scribble a little. Otherwise been stupidly busy in RL which is frustrating because I just want to drawwwww….
