This was a 44,444th pageview kiriban on deviantArt for IdentityCrisis01, brief was to draw hanboks (Korean traditional dresses) so for me that naturally became Princesses in hanboks. This was fun because the dresses are so gorgeous, I tried to keep them looking traditional while keeping each princess’s style.
Watercolour and fine marker.

Random request week results 2 of 3.
“The Disney Princesses at high tea, drawn to look like their film’s ages (Snow White is 75, Cinderella is 62, Aurora is 53, etc.). More grande dame than goofy. The ‘younger’ Princesses could be drawn as toddlers or young women” for mdmbrightside.   Seeing as they needed a common environment despite their various fairytale eras I brought them all together into an edwardian afternoon tea setting, hope that’s ok.

All the recent awards season dress spam on my dash just made me want to paint some big dresses…  This is loosely based on a photo of Kirsten Dunst I saw on Bohemea.

Messing around in my sketchbook on the topic of fan art cliches…
There are certain themes that keep coming around again and again in fan art.  Pin-ups probably being the most popular one.  I don’t want to do a proper series of them because they have been done to death but it’s just too irresistible to not draw them from time to time.

I read a lot of other Disney-related blogs and follow other fan artists and over the years I’d say there’s no other bitching like the princess bitching.  I tend to just ignore it for the most part but I can see why lot of people get annoyed by it and kudos to the bloggers who have the patience to try explain it over and over again.  The constant requests “but you drew/posted that princess, why can’t you draw/post Esme/Meg/Jane/etc. in the same picture” etc. and the messages “why did you draw/post/include Mulan, she’s not a real princess!”.   /sigh\  Being a Disney princess has sod all to do with being an actual princess of any kind and us fan artists/bloggers have nothing to say with who is and isn’t one.  Disney Princess concept is a merchandise line-up of selected animation characters that Disney as a company can use to sell the most merchandise possible wheter it’s in the Midwest, Midlands or Middle East.  End of.
