It’s world book day today (in the UK) and my son’s school did a thing where the kids were allowed to go in dressed as characters in books. In reality this turned out to be that in the reception class my son is in (4-5-year olds) most girls showed up dressed in Disney princess dresses and most boys in Marvel/DC superhero outfits. In the school yard I overheard one of the boys make a comment to a girl that she couldn’t be a princess since she had short hair. The bell rang that instant and all the kids ran off so I was just left there steaming with a piece on my mind I couldn’t get out there and then. So here’s Disney Princesses with short hairstyles.
Can’t sleep, the girl was poorly and I’m now washing three loads of vomit-covered toddler pajamas and bedlinens before I can sleep. Made a quick watercolour ‘n ink Belle and scrolled tumblr dash to help me think of nicer things in life. >_o
Fairy Tales for Twenty-somethings is one of my favourite tumblrs ever, Tim Manley’s rendition of Beauty and the Beast is delightful (even if in itself a little shallow). I couldn’t stop myself from making a quick Disney crossover.
Beauty and the Beast had been dating for a while now, and Beauty knew it was time for the Beast to meet her friends. But she was a little nervous. All her friends had these superhot boyfriends who worked in finance or modeled for J.Crew or whatever. The Beast was, well, the Beast liked to play Xbox in his underwear. And he was really into his fantasy football team. Beauty loved the Beast for who he was, she really did, but her friends were shallow and judgmental. “Maybe you should get some new friends,” Siri advised.
kids and sketchbooks… -_-
Speaking of Beauty and the Beast, does anyone know good and active specifically Disney’s BatB-related tumblrs to follow? I used to follow a bunch but I’m ruthless on one aspect: the moment I see fan art uncredited or worse, sourced back to heartit or pinterest, I hit the unfollow button.. so yeah.. my dash is starting to run a little dry on the best film ever.
Quick ink+brush and watercolour scribble of the Beauty from Megan Kearney’s ongoing ‘Beauty and the Beast’ webcomic. It would look better if I had made the background symmetrical but this is what happens when you draw with a 2-year old in the house. Tantrum distractions make you forget what you were supposed to do and then you pick up the drawing and carry on doing something completely different. Ungh. I tried.
Excuses aside, I love various different versions of Beauty and the Beast and so far Megan’s comic has been sufficiently faithful to original but still something new into the mix and I can’t help but look forward to tuesdays and fridays when it’s updated. :D
